Melanie here aka VampireLovingDork back with my review of Last Blood (Book 5 In The House Of Comarré Series) by Kristen Painter which I was lucky enough to receive as an ARC as I am on the “House Of Pain” Street Team.
Let me start by saying this was my series find of last year. I haven’t been along for the ride since the beginning but after seeing the beautiful covers I just had to start reading them and I devoured the first 3 straight through and then had to pace around for months waiting for the 4th one to be released.
Last Blood is the 5th and final installment in this particular series and what a story it is. I was a little nervous to start is as I knew that the end was near, there would be no open hanging cliffs this time for me to obsess over until the next one. Finally I would have some of the answers I have been waiting for and this always comes with mixed blessings.
But I shouldn’t have worried. Yet again Kristen Painter takes the story in a direction… Continue reading

The Red Door
Max is the new kid in town and he meets the class bully his first day at school. Like most new kids at school, he becomes a favorite of the class bullies. Instead of fights in the school yard, they want Max to go stay at the Stark house. The Stark house is the location where a serial killer brutally murdered young boys. It’s said that on a certain night in September, he reappears. Max has to go in and bring back a chip of the blood rumored to be in there.
This short story is very well written. Who knew something so short could have me on the edge of my seat! E H James is a master of building suspense in a short amount of time. This story made me want to turn on all the lights and hide under the sheets. Well done!
Blaming herself for her mother’s death,Liz wishes she could go back and change things. Then she meets a man on a park bench who gives… Continue reading

**I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinions.**
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars. What can I say? Once again, I was blown away by Booth and Shannon’s writing. This entire series was extremely great and exceeded by expectations. I was actually a little nervous about this series and not sure I would like it. But, the first chapter of the first book let me know I was going to love it and I have quickly made my way through all 3 books.
This book, the last of the series, was wonderful. You have Sheriff Penny Miller, and band of misfits (as I like to call them), trying to survive the U.S. zombie apocalypse that started as a virus made by the government (meant to make super soldiers). They have already been through hell and are just trying to find somewhere to hole up for a little bit so they can recover. So, they go to a small Colorado mountain town thinking they have a couple of weeks befoer the zombies make their way that far. Of course, they run into trouble and have… Continue reading

This collection of fifteen Lovecraft-inspired tales spans human history and genres. Ranging from high fantasy to martial arts epic to the far future, they are all linked by a common theme of the alien unknown. Among the stories’ inhabitants, you will find:
– A play so bizarre merely reading it may drive one mad.
– The dark secret of the forgotten patients locked away in the bowels of a seaside asylum.
– A desperate mission to deliver an untested weapon to the edge of the solar system.
– A martial arts tournament that will determine the fate of humanity.
– An eerie fairy tale featuring a character with a passing resemblance to a certain little yellow bear.
– And of course, the King of Rock n’ Roll.
CTHELVIS AND OTHERS is the quintessential doomsday and altered reality short story novel. Written in the same vein as the mighty HP Lovecraft, Pratt is indeed channeling his favorite horror author icon.
This book is packed with 15 individual, masterfully written stories that are so spines tingling and… Continue reading

This book is fast paced and always keeps you guessing. It’s Short and sweet but not a single word is wasted. I found it totally engrossing and surprising.
Madison has sworn off all men. So has her best friend and roommate Jessica. In fact, it turns out there are a lot of scorned girls on campus and they’re all itching for some pay back. So naturally they band together to form the Guys are Props Club. Madison has learned her lesson about men, especially the good looking ones. She wants nothing more than to keep her head down and make it through collage. Until that is, Sebastian walks into her life and complicates things. The situation gets worse when Jessica decides he is her next target for pay back.
My favourite thing about this book was that I had no idea whether I should like or even trust Sebastian. I could not decide if he was a slimy, well practiced player; as some of his actions and one liners would suggest, or if he was a… Continue reading
Melanie here aka VampireLovingDork back with my review of A First Love Never Dies by Margaret Taylor which was given to me in exchange for an honest review.
I am not a big romance fan but throw some science fiction in there and it will sometimes catch my attention and that is exactly what happened with this book. When Nerd Girl was offered the book for review I read the synopsis and had to add it to my list and I am so glad that I did.
A First Love Never Dies is a real page turner which I read straight through not coming up once for air. The characters are amazing and the writing fluid and compelling which in a novella is, for me at least, unusual when not being written as part of an existing series. Here though I had no problem connecting with Janel and the rest of the ensemble.
Lovers of classic Joss Whedon (think Firefly) will adore this adventure and just like with the show will find themselves at the end all too soon, but here we have hope that part 2 will not be too far behind because… Continue reading

I received this book from the author in exchange for a review.
The Storm and The Darkness by Sarah Cradit is a riveting thriller. It is well written and will keep you glued to your chair reading. The story unfolds from the perspective of each of the main characters. Each chapter gives you a little more insight into their various issues and demons they are battling. My only complaints are that the antagonist was obvious too soon in the story and, although not a stereotypical “happily-ever-after” ending, the story did wrap up a little too quickly and neatly. However, my perspective on this might be colored by not having read the first book in this series. I enjoyed the characters, the family dynamics as well as the pace of the story. I look forward to reading Ms. Cradit’s next novel.
Ana Deschanel flees to an island off the coast of Maine to avoid trouble with her family and friends in New Orleans. She encounters coldness from most of the inhabitants except for the kindly caretaker of her family’s island house. The storm that shuts off the island from contact with the… Continue reading

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars! As much as i loved the first book, I loved this one even more. Hot redhead sheriff, zombies, mercenaries and a crazy guy driving a Winnebago. I say that is a recipe for an excellent book. Like the first book, this book kept me on the edge of my seat. It was full of action and humor. I loved every second of it. Each character is so different and I love each of them in their own crazy ways. Sheriff Penny Miller is of course my favorite because she’s tough and a smart ass. I am so excited to get started on the third book. Thank you Steven W. Booth and Harry Shannon for writing such fun books to read.
