**Over 18 For Language and Sexual Content**

Melanie here aka VampireLovingDork  back  with my review of  My Familiar Stranger  (Book One In The Order Of The Black Swan Series)  by Victoria Danann which is an amazing Indie Book that I have had in my TBR pile forever and it finally made it’s way to the top.

WOW!! What can I say about this book.  It was one of those ones where I was lucky enough to obtain a signed copy a while ago and it has been gradually creeping up my TBR pile and the day finally arrived where it was its turn to be read …… and what a read it was.

This book has EVERYTHING for me!! Paranormal, Sci Fi, Mythology, cross another dimension …. if this was listed as a tv pilot  you could sign me up for the whole series without a second thought and this book certainly didn’t let me down.

The author creates a world that drags you into the adventure right from page one.  I felt an immediate desire to know what was going on and how things were going to progress.  The… Continue reading

The Magic Weaved on a Samhain Eve by V. J. Chisholm (Review By Laura)

The Magic Weaved on a Samhain Eve – V. J. Chisholm

*This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review*

This story since it is a novella did not take me long to get through, it is perfect for a train or bus journey or a night in with a hot bath. Alexia is young, happy, part of a strong coven and yet she is still single. Not that she minds too much, but when her sisters find out they decide that all the single members of their coven should participate in a spell that will give them all a night to remember with a sexy spirit.

Short and sweet is the best way to describe this story. The cover and description would give the impression that it would be short and steamy, but that isn’t the case, that is also not a bad thing. There are short hot moments that don’t last long before the story becomes emotionally and love story driven.

It would be amazing if this story was made into a full length book or a prequel or a new story with Alexia… Continue reading

Review – Johnny Came Home (A John Lazarus Adventure #1) by Tony Breeden V””V

Melanie here aka VampireLovingDork  back  with my review of  Johnny Came Home (Book One In The John Lazarus Adventure Series)  by Tony Breedon which I was given in exchange for an honest review.

So this is a difficult book for me to review.  I love the idea! I can see what the author was going for but something just didn’t connect for me.  The premise is very comic book based which is not a bad thing especially with the YA market the way it is and I have a feeling if the author could team up with a great Graphic Novelist this could become a sensation.  The problem for me lies with the fact that this “feels” like a comic book / graphic novel trapped in the pages of a regular book and for me it didn’t quite make the leap to where it needed to go.

The storyline is great.  Everything you could hope for and a brilliant blending of philosophical questions, corporations with too much money, experimentation and mutation, and so much more.  The characters are well thought out and the back stories complete.  They have everything… Continue reading

Kiss Me in Paris (Kiss Me Series, New Adult Contemporary Romance Novel) by Kimberly Kinrade and Dmytry Karpov (Review By Amy)

**Review from Amy Conley from The Nerd Girl Page**

***Warning- this book is sexually explicit! Not suitable for children***

While reading this book I felt instantly transported to another time and place like I was in my own little world and nothing else existed or mattered. It’s a hard book to put down (but I had to stop for a few times for breaks a girl’s got to eat right…LOL) It captures you so completely!
It’s a timeless and beautiful love story that will sweep you off your feet but it’s also much more than that there’s strong friendships, really awesome history facts, vivid and beautiful descriptions of places that you feel like your really there with the characters (oh how I wish I was in Paris..LOL) And also amazing characters who grow into their own and over come their fears and gives forgiveness to those that matter the most.
So you ask what I think of the book well I Love it!!! There were moments of laughter, favorite scenes that will always hold a place in my heart and most of all there were tears it really pulled at my heart strings I can definitely see… Continue reading

In Too Deep (Others of Edenton, #1) by Brandy L. Rivers (Review By Leah)

I received this book from the author in exchange for a review!

***Warning- this book is sexually explicit! Not suitable for children***

This book was amazing I fell in love with the characters the minute I started reading! Fallon is one of the best female protagonists that I have read in recent years! She kicks a$$ and takes names and is fiercely independent. She has a violent and disturbing past and is reluctant to get involved with the opposite sex ever again! Brody is a sexy werewolf that is immediately attracted to Fallon and wants nothing more than to love her and protect her! He also has had a trying past, personal loss send him into half of a life and when he meets Fallon she re awakens him! The two together are just incredibly sexy and are HOT HOT HOT as soon as they give into their desires. Brody knows they are meant for each other, but Fallon has to get over her past to live with her present and future!

I have always felt that a villain needed to be evil clean through! As a reader I want to… Continue reading

Creatura by Nely Cab (Review By Emily – YA Reviewer)

** Review By Emily from The Nerd Girl Page**

Emily here, the YA reviewer from Nerd Girl.  I give YA reviews from a real YA reader.  Here is  my review of  the ARC of Creatura by Nely Cab (release date August 6th 2013) which I was given in exchange for an honest review.

Although I have read a lot of YA paranormal romance, this novel had a very unique topic with original characters and an imaginative overall theme.

When I started reading the book, I was a little skeptical because I didn’t like the type of style that was used in the very first paragraph. That opinion quickly changed after the first page had ended and  I was completely hooked. I couldn’t put the book down and read it from start to finish in one day.

At many times the novel had me laughing out loud, gasping at certain events, and even reading parts out to my Mom (reviewer Melanie Newton). I enjoyed the writing style very much and loved the amount of author’s craft that was used; such as imagery which helped me see exactly what the main character… Continue reading

Review – Insight by Jamie Magee V””V

Melanie here aka VampireLovingDork  back  with my review of  Insight (Book One In The Insight Series) by Jamie MaGee which I was given in exchange for an honest review.

Hmmmmm where to start with this one.  Let me say the story idea is amazing.  The author obviously lives and breathes her worlds and characters and the ideas are a great mix of well known mythology / astrology with a unique twist taking you somewhere new.

The main problem I had with this is that for me, as a YA, it was too long.  Now for some people that will be a wonderful thing but I felt that sometimes the author got a little lost wandering in her world and some of the more pertinent information occasionally got a little lost in conversion.

The characters are strong and the worlds are believable but a few of the connections felt a little forced for me (although I am sure many others will disagree).  As a debut novel I will say this author has a myriad of ideas that the world hasn’t had the opportunity to experience yet and this is a wonderful thing but I… Continue reading

Falling For an Angel by Laura Prior (Review By Laura)

**Review By Laura from The Nerd Girl Page**

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

Falling For an Angel

Jasmine is in her final year of high school, she’s getting ready to graduate if she manages to stay out of trouble. Jasmine’s life has royally sucked, and to cope she’s turned to drink and drugs. When a stranger keeps popping up warning her to sort her life out she just shrugs him off as a stalker. Until he comes to her rescue and suddenly Jasmines life is about angels and demons. She goes from running from her personal demons to running from actual demons.

I really liked this book, I have been waiting for a good angel story for a while and Laura really delivered.  Jasmine is believable, relatable and a survivor. At any point she could have just given up hope and given in to her abuse of drugs and alcohol but she didn’t, she powered on through and that’s before her world was turned upside down by Angels. Jasmine is vulnerable and insecure and the relationship with her Guardian develops naturally as they both fight to keep Jasmine alive at the same… Continue reading

Picayune By John DeJordy (Review By Mark)

**Review By Mark – The Other Guy from The Nerd Girl Page**

Picayune By: John DeJordy

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.
Although I am sure that this book was intended for younger readers, like 7+  I thoroughly enjoyed it. With its Narnia like characters, with a generous splash of Despereaux, and a dash of Nihm it captured my imagination much the way it did my children.

The main character, a  dormouse who sees himself as completely insignificant in the grand scheme of things dreams of high adventure that he actually, to some extent manages to achieve.  By uniting clans and  vanquishing foes, in the end becomes the hero of his dreams!

I read this story to my children, and their reaction was awesome, sitting bright eyed dreaming of fairy tales and dragons! On the edge of their seat desperate to know what was going to happen next.  This is what a children’s book SHOULD be like!

I fully believe this is a first rate book, for young and older alike. It helps to teach children to dream big, and always try to achieve goals over insurmountable odds! And… Continue reading

Dark Genesis by Dave Ferraro (Review By Leah)

** Review By Leah  from The Nerd Girl Page**

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

It’s been awhile since I have read a book about witches, and the was a unique twist on an age old concept! Instead of a select few having magical powers, an entire population is born with some kind of power! The main character Alyssa, is strong and courageous, she makes a great female protagonist that will make this a very compelling read for any woman who loves the fantasy genre.

This book is chock full of antagonists, that were once good witches that were driven mad with power. The odds seem to be overwhelming, but Alyssa faces them head on with help from the friends she makes along the way.

The only reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because I found it slightly predictable. I figured out what Alyssa must do to regain her life almost immediately. Also the it ended so abruptly I felt like it needed more, another chapter or epilogue. the end just seemed really rushed to me. Other than that, this was a really good read! I found the concept… Continue reading
