Indy Author Talk with Joe Roper ~ First is Not the Worst

8 (2)

Joe is such a charismatic guy!  He is super sweet and it’s really hard to believe that anyone would reject anything that he ever wrote!!!  AND LOOK AT THAT FACE!!  Giggles!  Anyway I am totally being silly because Joe and I have that kind of  repport.  If we ever met in person we would probably run around acting like silly little kids and our significant others would tell us to act our age! LM(Uhhhhh)O!!!   I hope you enjoy this weeks installment of Nerd Girl Official’s Indy Author Talk!

*****First is Not the Worst*****

There’s something special about first experiences. No! This is not erotica so get your mind out of the gutter. Although, since my wife and I met when I was a freshman in high school and “waited” for marriage I could go there. Nah.

The first time I went hunting I spent the night in a little trailer that smelled like natural gas and I was certain I would die… Continue reading

***Melanie – #NerdGirlVamp’s  Review***

I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of this novella, the third in the AMAZING Sin City Collectors Series, and the second novella by Amanda Carlson, for review purposes. Although it is part of a series I think this would definitely work as a stand alone but my personal preference, as with most series, would be to read them in order especially as there is a LOT of character crossover from the first in the series. For those that want to just jump right in with this one though… Continue reading

Shane Morgan’s Indy Author Talk – The Right Song Soundtrack

The Right Song

Music makes the world go ’round!  I love music just as much as I love books AND it’s likely that other (NERDS) love the combination as much if not more than myself.  Shane Morgan meshed the two together and used it to the benefit of her new release!  This is a special installment of Nerd Girl Official’s Indy Author Talk!  Please help me welcome Shane Morgan!

 *****The Right Song Soundtrack*****

One of the ways that The Right Song separates itself from my other releases is the fact that I’ve implemented my love for music. Over the years, I’ve written a ton of songs that I haven’t shared with anyone until now. So, I decided since I’m going to write a book about a girl pursuing music, why not use some of my own song lyrics. That aside, I still needed inspiration for the overall feel of the story and to help create a good atmosphere that I can write in. Here are the songs that have helped me with the development of “The Right Song” (None applies directly to a scene, with the exception of Never Let… Continue reading

Cat Miller’s Indy Author Talk – HallowRead Author Special Installment #2

On July 15th, Nerd Girl Official did an HallowRead Author Special with Rachel Rawlings titled “Planning the Perfect Mini-Con”.  We are thrilled to be an official blogger/promoter for the Historic Ellicot City Based Horror/Paranormal festival.
This month’s installment is another home grown author, Cat Miller!  She literally lives a hop skip and a jump from my Rosedale abode AND I even went to high school with her brother and sister-in-law.  Talk about 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon.  Isn’t that how the phrase goes!?  Cat is the author of the Forbidden Bond Series and the Vampire Nation Series who is  an avid reader who loves all genre of romantic fiction from historical to contemporary to paranormal.  Take a look at the beautiful covers for Unbound and Unforgiven for the Forbidden Bond Series!  I love the colors pallet and the overall feel of the books.  A collector like myself is totally thrilled to learn that you can purchase autographed copies off of her website!!  <<SQUEALLLLLL>>

INDY AUTHOR TALK WITH – Fairy Tales by Liz DeJesus

Liz was one of the first supporters of Nerd Girl Official and has remained a fan ever since!  She is #AwesomeSauce!  I reviewed her novel, First Frost and loved it (http://tinyurl.com/oe7ft89).  I DO PLAN ON READING First Frost again before I read/review Glass Frost in a few weeks; it’s just that kind of book.  PLUS I need a refresher.  One of our retired #NerdGirl reviewers use to read every book in a series before she would read the new release and I will be doing just that.

Fairy Tales have been re-told over the centuries to boys and girls, so they would be good.  So there life would have meaning.  Girls could dream.  Boys could reach for the stars.  They needed something to base their lives off of and grow!  The Brothers Grim collected much of the fairy tales in the late 18th Century.   It was their obsession and now it’s ours.   Their stories are still being retold and reworked but I never tire of them.  Liz is a hopeless romantic like most of us girls.  We just want our prince, our king,… Continue reading

C.S. Bailey’s Indy Author Talk – The Pros and Cons of Self-publishing (Sort of)

Writing is a struggle for some authors.  The process in itself is daunting.  THEN getting  published is even harder.  Rejection letters can kill a person’s self esteem and keep them in a rabbit hole for years (believe me I know.)  BUT the self-publishing phenomenon has exploded.  I use to know all the authors and new genre’s coming our, but I can’t keep up.  I spend at least 2 hours of my morning before the Big 3 morning “Meetings” reading newsletters upon newsletters.  MORE AND MORE mainstream authors are going INDY as well!  Exciting!!  Anyway…

C.S. Bailey is here today to express his Pros and Cons of Self-Publishing.  His windy path and his success!!  His book Maybe Misery was released on July 25th and it’s only $1.01 on Amazon!    He has an interesting blog as well so be sure to check out his links at the bottom after the Q&A!

Enjoy!

The Pros and Cons of Self-publishing (Sort of)

I’d been asked to write a piece for the Indy-author talk segment and settled on sharing the experience of taking three years of self-publishing a book.

It’s always… Continue reading

INDY AUTHOR TALK WITH Don Walker – ‘SHE’S CRAZY, SERIOUSLY!’ FILM PROJECT

Don Walker…  Where shall I begin…  Nerd Girl Official fan page promoted his Agent Wild KickStarter Campaign late summer 2013 and we have been friends ever since.  His #AwesomeSauce Comic, Alien Princess Huntress, Agent Wild (In my head it’s Asian Wild – LOL) looks sooooooooo cool so far!  I am totally excited that the comic was funded!  <Insert #FanGirlSqueal>

I was lucky enough to win a signed (on the back) promo cover printout and a silver edition metal trading card from one of his giveaways and I have been trying to get him to sign a piece of card stock paper ever since.  BUT the man is busy!!!  Maybe when his #IndyFilm gets funded I can coax him into it.  You know because WHEN I frame it, you can’t see his autograph.  AND I CAN’T PROVE WE WERE FRIENDS WHEN HE IS FAMOUS!!!

 ANYWAY!

Alien Princess Huntress, Agent WILD, is an alien policing the alien presence on Earth who uncovers a plot to destroy an entire galactic alliance. Starting with EARTH.

Dant Dant Dahhhhhhhh…. (Is that how that goes??)  LOOKIE AT THE COVER!!  WELL THIS IS WHAT… Continue reading

INDY AUTHOR TALK WITH KATHERINE WOOD – Full Time Teacher, Full Time Writer

Blood in the Air

Reading is magic, but for the AUTHOR writing the books, we read, is more like juggling.  Katherine Wood is the author of Blood in the Air: The Kari True Chronicles and her Indy Author Talk is centered about juggling a full time job and writing full time!

I hope you enjoy this week’s installment Nerd Girl Official’s Indy Author Talk, BUT first let’s take a look at her book trailer!  SQUEEEAAAALLLLLL!!!  I can’t wait to read her book!  (Especially since she describes it to be a cross between the Lord of the Rings and Law & Order!)

Full Time Teacher, Full Time Writer

It has taken me three years from starting writing my book to having it out in the shops and alongside this I have been peddling uphill to try and get a permanent job in teaching. Everyone needs a day job

In January of 2011 I was teaching in a job that I hated, it was my first year of teaching and I was really struggling, having very little support from my mentor and head teacher.… Continue reading

Synopsis

After the Affair of the Clockwork Scarab, Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes are eager to help Princess Alix with a new case. Seventeen-year-old Willa Aston is obsessed with spiritual mediums, convinced she is speaking with her mother from beyond the grave. What seems like a case of spiritualist fraud quickly devolves into something far more menacing: someone is trying to make Willa “appear lunatic,” using an innocent-looking spiritglass to control her. The list of clues piles up: an unexpected murder, a gang of pickpockets, and the return of vampires to London. But are these events connected? As Uncle Sherlock would say, “there are no coincidences.” It will take all of Mina’s wit and Evaline’s muscle to keep London’s sinister underground at bay.
