***THIS BOOK WAS PROVIDED TO NERD GIRL IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
After her father goes missing in the woods that they protect, Winter tries to seek the truth in what happened, why the wood is changing, and what it all has to do with the arrival of a mysterious stranger in this thrilling YA debut.
When Winter’s dad goes missing during his nightly patrol of the wood, it falls to her to patrol the time portals and protect the travelers who slip through them. Winter can’t help but think there’s more to her dad’s disappearance than she’s being told.
She soon finds a young man traveling in the wood named Henry who knows more than he should. He believes if they can work together to find his missing parents, they could discover the truth about Winter’s dad.
The wood is poisoned, changing into something sinister—torturing travelers lost in it. Winter must put her trust in Henry in order to find the truth and those they’ve lost.
Bobulski’s eerie debut is filled with friendship, family, and the responsibilities we choose and those we do not.
The story is one that is unique, different and an amazing amount of fun! The reader will get a paper cut from turning the pages so frantically trying to see what is going to happen next, while at the same time not wanting the story to end! The plot is unpredictable, the suspense is there and the reader wants to start the book all over again as soon as they finish so that they can see what they missed the first time that they read it!
You will want to laugh with Winter, cry for her, yell and scream in her defense, but the one thing you won’t want to do is stop reading! This is a roller coaster ride of emotion, one that brings the reader joy and sorrow as they can physically feel the air around change as if they were actually in The Wood. The author truly brings The Wood to life for the readers! This is a MUST read by an amazing new author, but one that you can expect to go places, if this is just the beginning of what she has to offer! I am already looking forward to her next book! Grab this book and be prepared to do nothing else but read it from start to finish and then maybe again….My new favorite YA book so far this year!
