The perfect guy, the perfect location. What could go wrong?

Hadley Daniels’s life seems perfect…

Before the beginning of sophomore year of high school, Hadley and her family move to a beautiful beach town, where she makes amazing new friends and lands the boyfriend of her dreams—Nick Jenkins. He’s the kind of guy every girl swoons over, and it isn’t long until Hadley discovers some are still swooning.

A famous ex-girlfriend makes matters more complicated…

After some time dating, Hadley and Nick form a deep bond. But insecurity sets in when Hadley discovers her boyfriend once had a huge crush on her friend—who just happens to be the beautiful former teen TV star, Simone Hendrickson.

The past is the past—or so they say…

Hadley confronts Nick, who confesses about his history with Simone. Though he claims to only have eyes for Hadley now, it’s hard to believe—especially when she’s blindsided with the news that Nick and Simone kissed after school.

Now Hadley must determine who is telling the truth. Love, betrayal, friendship…who needs soap opera drama when you’re busy competing with a star?

***Katie – #NerdGirlKtlbly’s  Review***
Hadley Daniels is finally going out with Nick Jenkins which she can’t be more excited for. Unfortunately her friends Pilar, Asia, Morgan, and Simone tag along to their very first date and try to steal some of the attention from Nick instead. After a few awkward moments at an ice cream shop Hadley and Nick steal away and start to talk and get to know each other a little more. They find they have a lot in common like enjoying old black and white classic movies. Nick invites her to visit his grandfather who is in a nursing home where they play old classic movies sometimes. Hadley really enjoys herself and Nick is happy about that so they plan a date to go to the movies. Again it unfortunately turns into a group thing and even though Hadley and Nick try to sit separately, it doesn’t work and all their friends crowd around them. After, it’s implied that Nick and his ex-girlfriend Reagan used to be very physical when they went to the movies and Reagan would practically be sitting in Nick’s lap most of the time. Hadley gets jealous and insecure and wonders sometimes why someone like Nick would ever want to be with someone like her. She voices her concerns to her friends and they all say that ‘Nick totally feels different about you, he never stops talking about you, he may have been this way with that person but clearly they aren’t together now so you should be happy and not insecure.’ They visit a carnival together and come across their friends again and hang out for a bit. At the carnival Hadley overhears some girls talking about Nick and some of his past relationships and talking about what a frumpy girl he’s with now. She gets really upset, insecure, and jealous and becomes a little distant from Nick. Even though Nick tells her how much he likes her, she’s always thinking about him calling his ex-girlfriend beautiful and he calls her cutie, or how he and his ex practically made out during a movie and he’s only given her pecks. She finds out that Nick used to have a crush on Simone and gets really upset when she hears that after school Nick and Simone kiss. Now she’s crushed and doesn’t know what to believe or who to believe and if she can even forgive them for what they did.
I did enjoy this story even without reading the first one. I was a little unsure though about how Hadley could be friends with some of them like Morgan because she is so rude and mean. Her friends are also a lot more affectionate then they should be knowing that Hadley and Nick are together and that bothered me at times. I know that being in high school leads to a lot of insecurities and second guessing things but Hadley just gets insecure about everything. Even when she had no reason to be sometimes. She voices some concerns and she and Nick would talk about them and she’d be ok and then go right back to feeling what she felt before. However I did enjoy this and I read it very quickly. Sometimes characters or events would be brought up and I’d wish I’d read the first one before to better understand more, but I got right back into the story quickly. It was a cute, quick read and I did enjoy it.
