“Depression is a funny thing. Just when you think you have defeated it, and things are looking up, it comes out of hiding to play with your mind. Leaving you to wonder why you’re even living. Wednesday Emmerson was no stranger to depression. Her life has always been one traumatic event after another. When she meets Brian, she thinks her life has finally made the turn around she so desperately needed. Then he leaves her after three years, with no explanation or goodbye, and she is left once again to wonder where she went wrong in life. When she feels likes she can no longer fight in the ever pending battle with her own mind, she makes a rash decision that will change her life for ever, and will bring her news that she never expected to hear. Everything else that follows is just another day in paradise.”
**Reviewer Notes – self mutilation, suicide attempts **
This is author Elizabeth Cash’s debut novel and it knocks the reader off of their feet!! She writes with the style, flow and elegance of a much more seasoned writer and if I didn’t know this was her first book I would have never guessed it!! She has created a tale about depression, suicide and loss that should and will make every reader cry, offer help to anyone who needs it and in turn give the reader insight on the life of someone who suffers from severe depression. She writes the story with facts but also with compassion. The reader gains insight on how someone feels but they also gain empathy, knowledge and hope.
The main character, Wednesday, suffers from depression, feelings of hopelessness, loss and even disbelief that she should be alive, but at the same time she has things to hope for and people to lean on throughout her life. She has suffered several blows throughout her short life but in one moment it could all change for the better. The plot is unique, there are so many twists, turns, loops and curves that the reader never knows what is coming next and the reader will run through every emotion known as they try to figure out what will happen next.
This is a can’t miss read and I will be anxiously awaiting the next book by this author! Don’t stop writing, you will be going far, I can see it now!! Sit back, grab some tissues and be prepared to be wowed! It is that good!!
