She is determined to live life on her own terms. Destiny has other plans.

Rookie journalist Cassidy Chandler wakes to an ugly bruise on her neck, a hole in her memory, and a fiancé who seems to know more about what happened than he’s telling. It’s enough to make Cassidy call off the engagement and move out, even if that means trading a posh South Florida mansion for a dilapidated beach house. Unfortunately, she also trades one devious man for another questionable character in her unexpected new roommate: the darkly enigmatic and exasperatingly French Dominic Marchant.

For Dominic Marchant secrecy is a matter of survival. As a newborn vampire with dangerous enemies, he’s sure the headstrong young woman invading his lair with an unknown vampire’s mark on her throat is about to get him killed. But the charming Cassidy resists his every effort to make her leave and even embroils him in her own tumultuous life. Before he knows it, she has stolen his heart and helps him rediscover his lost humanity. Now he’s fighting to protect her not only from the ancient vampires hunting him, but also from his own deadly desire for her.

But her secretive ex isn’t done with her yet, and neither is the dark prophecy Cassidy and Dominic’s unlikely relationship has set in motion. Together they are swept up in a battle where nothing is as it seems, love and deception are the weapons of choice, and the only way to survive is to risk everything—for each other.

***Katie – #NerdGirlKtLBLy’s Review***
Cassidy has been with Jackson for years and is even engaged to be married. They love each other but Jackson’s family has made it well known that they are a powerful family and they don’t believe that Cassidy is good enough to be with Jackson. After a dinner where Cassidy is belittled by Jackson’s family, and isn’t stuck up for, she breaks off the engagement and leaves their mansion home for a cheap beach house. Little does she know though, the house is not as vacant as she thinks. It’s actually home to a 200 year old vampire named Dominic who is not exactly thrilled with her moving in. Especially when he sees her neck has been bitten by another vampire and Cassidy doesn’t even seem to remember the event at all. Dominic eventually reveals that he’s living there (but doesn’t tell her that he’s a vampire) and tries to compel Cassidy to leave. However Cassidy seems to be stronger than the compulsion and has nowhere else to go, so she says that since she already paid to rent the place she’s staying. Jackson is still calling Cassidy and checking up on her and even drives down to try to get her to come back, but Cassidy has had enough of him. He finds out that she is staying with Dominic and figures out what he is and tries that much harder to get Cassidy away from there. He and his family are not new to vampires, and even had a few tragic vampire events in their life, so Jackson will stop at nothing to not only protect Cassidy, but try to rid the world of all vampires once and for all.
I really did enjoy this story and I do actually feel bad for Jackson at times. I can see why Cassidy would be upset that he is still bothering her after they break up, but I can also see how protective of her he is. He does go to many extremes to “help save her” but he does have his reasons I think.
