The continuing story of Detective Lani Vaden, and former Navy SEAL Tony Roman
After Lani breaks Tony out of prison, their relationship faces hurdles they couldn’t have predicted. Can they remain together, or will outside forces keep them apart?
This book is intended for +18 due to sexual situations and adult language
This book picks up where book one left us hanging: will Tony get his pardon? Do they live happily ever after??? You get the answers to those questions and more. In this book, I saw Tony struggle so much to find himself again. After ten years in prison, you can only imagine how hard it is for him to acclimate to society and be around people. Ms. Silvey conveyed just the right amount of emotion and details to show me how Tony felt. It was as if I was sitting in the room with him and could feel his tension and frustration through my kindle. Tony does a lot of growing in this book; yes he’s a SEAL but he had to learn that Lani can take care of herself. Not an easy thing for a military guy to do (I should know, I married a military man and he absolutely hates it when I’m in difficult situations that I have to take care of myself). The internal struggle that Tony goes through will break your heart, but he puts it back together with how far he’d go for Lani.
Lani is still her stubborn, independent and feisty self. She has got to be one of my favorite female characters. I just love how she can go from scared to sarcastic in less than a minute. Lani also struggles in this book; she struggles with her job as a cop and with her role as girlfriend. She’s never had this serious of a relationship before so she has to stop and think about which person Tony needs her to be. I love that she’s so devoted to him and would do anything for him. Lani also has some growing to do; in prison she was able to protect Tony by volunteering to go to him. On the outside, though she has to learn that Tony can take care of himself and she has to trust him to do so. She also has to trust him to take care of her even though she knows she can do it herself. Lani struggles with that so much in this book, but by the end she’s reached I think a pretty good balance of things.
I loved the whole book; I finished it in literally two days. I couldn’t put it down. Lani and Tony face a lot of problems in this book as they try to bring the prison officials to justice. Tony is also trying to get justice for himself and his SEAL team from their last mission. More importantly, Tony and Lani have to battle his irritating ex-wife Lauren for visitation rights of Tony’s kids. I was happy with the answers that I got to the questions from book one and I was incredibly happy with the ending. There were some nail biting scenes but I couldn’t stop reading. Please go get book one first and see where it all starts. Then get book two and finish the story with them. You won’t be sorry.
