A Paranormal Shifter Romance
Vengeance is the only thing worth dying for.
Only love can save you.
Teaming up with a handsome shifter named Ephrem, the banished Princess Lilliana must find her stolen Ardent talisman before a sinister enemy uses it against both rival wolf pack strongholds. Thrown onto a path neither of them expected, they stumble across a third cell of supernatural shifters lurking in the city’s Outlands where tensions mount. These new strangers want nothing more than to disrupt the two royal strongholds, the ArcKnights and the MarkTiers, and reignite a long-forgotten feud from decades past.
In the treacherous City of Temple where supernaturals and humans intertwine, only the most cunning will survive.
I have mixed feelings for The ArcKnight Chronicles. On one hand I can plainly see that Alexia Purdy has some mad writing skills. She is clearly a very talented author, but on the other hand I feel like so much of the story was cheated and just did not go cohesively to me.
I wish we had gotten to see Lilliana’s banishment and that we had more of a build up for Lily and Ephrems love. I know as a formerly betrothed couple some of the pull is still there, but their feelings just felt rushed. Then we talk about Gil’s father and how he dies from being poisoned by an unknown enemy. EVERYONE is very upset about losing their former Alpha this way but it is just a few cursory mentioning’s in Ardent. We eventually find out in the end who did it and what exactly happened, but other than a brief following of Lily that is all we get.
Then as we go into book 2 I was a little bit confused. Lily is still banished for some archaic reason, but she and Ephrem are still together and in love. But then we have the sudden appearance of the Kelhans pack and I felt like this book was more of a completely separate story with the same characters than a continuation of a series. Maybe this was purposeful? I got a little muddled from book to book. Then what happened with the Alpha challenge between Gil and Alec? There are so many different first person POV and branched stories that something this important should have been given more than one sentence in the book. I really WANTED to see that fight scene. Gil was such a prick that I became more interested in the Rafaela, Gil, Alec triangle than the main story.
The writing and the talent was there, but it got jumbled up in a story with way too much POV jumping and unanswered or half answered plot lines.
