WHO’S YOUR SCI-FI CRUSH?
Some girls fall in love with Disney princes. For as long as I can remember, though, I loved sci-fi guys. From my childhood crush on Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, to my more recent love for Tom Hiddleston as Loki, I’ve had love for the boys in galaxies far, far away, and traveling through time.
As I celebrate the release of Dating an Alien Pop Star, my wacky rom-com featuring a crush-worthy alien named Griffin, I though it would be fun to look back on some of my favorite sci-fi crushes.
*Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan: He’s cool, he’s young, and he’s got a lightsaber. What’s not to love about one of the hottest Jedis ever? Ewan McGregor brought charm to a role that was written a bit thin. He even made that dorky Jedi Padawan braid cool, and that’s saying something.
*Michael J. Fox as Marty Mcfly: Ah, Marty McFly. Cute, sassy, tiny enough to fit in your pocket, plays guitar, AND travels through time. MJF’s boyish charm allowed him to *almost* get away with playing a 17 year old even when he was nearing 30 (in the third film of the trilogy). Aviators and jean jackets have never looked so cool.
*Christian Bale as Quinn: I know Reign of Fire really splits people in the sci-fi community. Some people love it, some people hate it. I fall in the former category, and I hold to my (somewhat controversial?) opinion that it was one of the best dragon movies I’ve seen. I loved the dystopian world, and I loved Christian Bale’s brooding Quinn. He was handsome, bearded, and protecting his little tribe of survivors. A world burned to charred remains looks a tiny bit better with Quinn in it.
*Tom Hiddleston as Loki: Tom Hiddleston, as a real person, couldn’t be further from the character he plays for Marvel. His scheming god is brooding, whiny, sassy, evil, and vulnerable all at the same time. We always sense that he’s just thiisssss close to redemption, so we keep waiting and hoping he’ll come around to the good side. In the meantime, he makes one tall, pale, dangerously hot almost-villain.
*David Duchovny as Mulder: Does it get any better than sci-fi’s gentle, puppy-like FBI agent? Mulder’s wonder and open-minded view of the world is perfectly balanced with his partner’s skepticism, and we love him for it. Who can say no to those big eyes and that floppy 90s hair, either?
*Michael Fassbender as David: No matter how you feel about this movie and its ambiguous place in the universe of the Alien franchise, you can still appreciate Michael Fassbender in a jumpsuit, right? I always love an attractive man in a sci-fi helmet…
*Harrison Ford as Han Solo: He’s Han Solo. Do I really need to say more?
