An alien world, where paranormals exist side-by-side with humans, comes out of hiding when Joslyn and her family move to Valdez. In the midst of adapting to their new life, Joslyn stumbles across two dangerous situations that she must bring to the attention of the powerful mage/vampire hybrid who leads the city’s paranormals.
Though the first is easily dealt with, the second is far more dangerous—a serial killer with a paranormal edge. Can Joslyn hold back the growing darkness within her as she and the hybrid face the dangers? Can she hold back from falling in love with the un-dead leader?

***Valerie -#NerdGirlVal’s  Review***
This book was fantastic! I liked it so much, that I couldn’t put it down and read it in one day. I was hooked on the first few pages, I couldn’t take my eyes away.
This story was very interesting on how the family was in a commune and how they were brain washed about other paranormal. They were told to believe that they were the best and all the others were bad. Well as they had to leave the commune and start over in Alaska, they found out that what they were told to believe was not true. This happens all the time today. Families, neighborhoods, cities, communes, churches, schools and so on, go by what they are told down the generations and that is what is believed.
The story follows a 18 year old girl in high school and her twin brother and their parents. She has powers stronger than anyone else around. but her powers keep getting her into trouble. The twins make a friend on the first day at their new school. This girl ends up being special to them. There is a guy that thinks he is all that and makes a comment on how he knows who they are. He ends up being trouble and killed.
I kept feeling like the twins didn’t belong together. but that the girl belonged with the high and mighty guy as twins and the special girl and the other twin should be twins. If this doesn’t make since to you, well then you are just going to have to read it to find out what I am talking about.
This was a fun read! It has a tight knit family, new community, new paranormal ( to the family), love that shouldn’t be, abuse ( not explicit), surprises, suspense and some action. It is a very good read for older teens. I enjoyed it to no end and can’t wait for book 2.
