She could only stare back, frozen.
When a strange beast terrorizes the kingdom of Lochlanach, fear stirs revolt. In an act of desperation, a proclamation is sent to all of Eurona—kill the creature and win the ultimate prize: the daughter of King Lochson’s hand in marriage.
Princess Aerity knows her duty to the kingdom but cannot bear the idea of marrying a stranger…until a brooding local hunter, Paxton Seabolt, catches her attention. There’s no denying the unspoken lure between them…or his mysterious resentment.
Paxton is not the marrying type. Nor does he care much for spoiled royals and their arcane laws. He’s determined to keep his focus on the task at hand—ridding the kingdom of the beast—but the princess continues to surprise him, and the perilous secrets he’s buried begin to surface.
Inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ tale “The Singing Bone,” New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins delivers a dark fantasy filled with rugged hunters, romantic tension, and a princess willing to risk all to save her kingdom
First let me start off by saying this is the first book I have read by Wendy Higgins and I adore her writing style. Not too flashy or wordy but in depth and it pulls on your heartstrings.
I felt every painful decision Princess Aerity felt! Every jab of angst Paxton riddled himself with and all the fear the kingdom felt with each on of the great beast attacks!! I love the way it ended even though it was a bit of a cliffhanger and I want to tear my eyes out so I can unsee it but I can’t. So I will just wait until 2017!! I Know right 2017!!!! Ugh!!
This book is a re-telling of the Grim Fairy tale Song of Bones and quit frankly it did do the original tale some justice times 100! Princess Aerity will do anything to rid her father’s kingdom of the beast. Even if that means she won’t marry for love like her father did. BUT she didn’t realize that one hunter would catch her eye and her heart. Too bad Paxton Seabolt doesn’t feel the same!!! Or does he!?!
I implore you! If you loved the delicate wordplay of A Court of Thornes and Roses by Sarah J. Mass, this should be your next read! 5 Stars and a bow to my lady!!
