***THIS BOOK WAS PROVIDED TO NERD GIRL IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning comes the first book in her hotly anticipated new urban paranormal trilogy, set in the world of her blockbuster Fever series.
The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.
Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.
Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.
When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.
Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.
Sigh… How I love Karen Marie Monings wordplay. It’s like a choregraphed martial arts demo. Fluid, magestic, hard and precise. I have missed her words so much!! Why have I held off reading Iced? Well duh. I felt like I was cheating on Mac and Barrons. I am totally utterly in love with their dynamic.
I will whole heartedly admit I was fooling myself. I have room in the KMM corner of my heart for Dani and Ryodan. I am ashamed. My feelings were playing tug of war (and still do as I continue reading the subsequent installments)
In the words of Wayne and Garth, “I am not worthy”. In this installment we are in the throes of the collapse of the wall between fairy and our world. IFPs are not the only things that you need to watch out for. The fae are out in full force and Chester’s is the place to be. Ryodan is king.
Trouble comes in the form of Ice. It comes in a flash and everyone in its path is frozen solid. Dani is thrusted into the mystery by being “employeed” or “indentured” to the owner of Chesters, Ryodan. No one says no to the boss and she is not a fan of him or of the 9. AND she doesn’t want to be anywhere near where Mac or Barrons will be. What a pickle!
Fast forward like your Dani in hyperspeed and we have a plot that’s thick enough to stand on. Ms Moning doesn’t skip a beat, a word or an opportunity to floss her skills. Even though it took me a solid minute to read, I can honestly say I am ashamed for doubting a single page!
Superb! 5 stars and a tip of my mac halo… Ahem… I mean my Nerd Girl hat!
