Even in a world of freaks, being a Firestarter is considered a dangerous Gift.
Lucy was born with the ability to create and control fire. She longs to leave the human world for one filled with Earthshakers, Transporters, and Chameleons, to name a few. When she rejoins the circus, it’s everything she hoped it could be—new friends, a potential love interest or two, and a place where she can be herself.
When troupe members begin turning up dead, however, Lucy is suspected of foul play. She must not only prove her innocence but also realize the full extent of her power. To find the real murderer, she must uncover the truth behind her father’s fiery legacy while figuring out whom to trust within her new circle. Little does she know the history of the Donovan Circus and its enemies might actually destroy the entire gifted world.
Lucy our main character is a former Donovan circus family member, but left with her parents when the longed for a more normal life. She wanted that life back, especially when her parents dead and she needed a sense of belonging. The Donovan Circus was where her family lived before and her father was the MAIN ATTRACTION!
As a fire-starter Lucy can both create and control fire. Where else can she hone her skills and be with of other gifted individuals than a circus?? BUT a special traveling circus with other “gifted” individuals like herself.
Lucy is a strong protagonist with a true spark (haha) for life. She is a spirited individual that grows as the story progresses. AND THEN THE PLOT THICKENS with murders that all point to her! To stir the plot a little more, she is in the middle of two love interests!! To make THE SITUATION MORE INTERESTING, she has the feels for BOTH of them.
This book was well written with tons of action and twists BUT there is a lot of curse words. Which I don’t mind since I tend to have a sailors mouth but if you don’t mind that then proceed with your usual zeal for reading. I did want to put that out there.
I will be continuing with this series! I would like to see how Long’s writing progresses! 4 stars and a tip of the Nerd Girl hat!!
