Synopsis

Seven girls tied by time.
Five powers that bind.
One curse to lock the horror away.
One attic to keep the monsters at bay.

After the storm of the century rips apart New Orleans, sixteen-year-old Adele Le Moyne wants nothing more than her now silent city to return to normal. But with home resembling a war zone, a parish-wide curfew, and mysterious new faces lurking in the abandoned French Quarter, normal needs a new definition.

As the city murder rate soars, Adele finds herself tangled in a web of magic that weaves back to her own ancestors. Caught in a hurricane of myths and monsters, who can she trust when everyone has a secret and keeping them can mean life or death? Unless . . . you’re immortal.

***Jaime – #NerdGirlJay’s   Review***

New Orleans. Witches. Vampires. And a curse that spans the centuries. In a storytelling style blending the past with the present, Alys Arden had my rapt attention from page one. Murder, mystery and magic are interwoven in this page-turner.

Taking place in New Orleans after the Storm of the century, Adele Le Moyne and her father return back to their roots. Amidst the ruins of the city, strange things are happening. A black crow follows Adele around the city. Her father disappears at night, returning in the early hours of the morning. She starts moving things with telekinesis. Adele is drawn to very different boys. Dark and broody Isaac. Mature and sophisticated Nicco. Can Adele unravel her family’s past before more people die?

A definite must read Southern Gothic novel reminiscent of Anne Rice, blending myth and legend with the grittier side of New Orleans. I look forward to future books from Alys Arden.
