Sodomite is Arden Aoide’s latest novella. It can be read as a stand-alone, but there is a tie into her ongoing Sins of Lethe series.

This isn’t a romance per se. It is futuristic and yet a throwback to the past. It is a social commentary on sexual orientation, ignorance, hypocrisy, and religion.

Ezra, and other young men his age, are meeting with their pastor to discuss expectations for their arranged marriages. These marriages have been arranged since before their births, and when these teenaged boys turn 20, they’ll take a 14-16 year-old bride. The pastor sees a kindred spirit in Ezra, and he takes advantage of Ezra’s confusion regarding his sexual orientation.

I haven’t read anything this thought provoking since George Orwell’s Animal Farm and William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. There is a generous smattering of sex and some disturbing violence to show wanton desire juxtapose to the restrictive, biased laws set for the people of Texas in the year 2250.

Sodomite is dark, twisted and different. I highly recommend it to readers with strong constitutions and inquisitive minds; it is not light, but it is absolutely riveting and once you get started you will power through the story.
