Anita Blake has the highest kill count of any vampire executioner in the country. She’s a U.S. Marshal who can raise zombies with the best of them. But ever since she and master vampire Jean-Claude went public with their engagement, all she is to anyone and everyone is Jean-Claude’s fiancée.

It’s wreaking havoc with her reputation as a hard ass—to some extent. Luckily, in professional circles, she’s still the go-to expert for zombie issues. And right now, the FBI is having one hell of a zombie issue.

Someone is producing zombie porn. Anita has seen her share of freaky undead fetishes, so this shouldn’t bother her. But the women being victimized aren’t just mindless, rotting corpses. Their souls are trapped behind their eyes, signaling voodoo of the blackest kind.

It’s the sort of case that can leave a mark on a person. And Anita’s own soul may not survive unscathed . .

***Melanie – #NerdGirlVamp’s  Review***
24 books in and for me this series just keeps getting better and better. I know there are a plethora of “fans” out there that haven’t liked the more adult pathway some of the later books have taken but for those like me that enjoy the dark side of everything this series is a continuing winner.

This installment thrilled me with the return to more of Anita’s necromancy being explored together with a brutal police investigation but what I enjoyed the most was how much the other characters have grown and that really comes to light here.

Any time we get to learn more about the metaphysical is a plus for me but throw in all the new unknowns and what could be perceived by some as “ridiculous” to me seems to be genius. The world that has been created here is so dark and complex that I think it is perhaps my favorite world to play in.

As always I got to the end to quickly (despite this being a generous over 500 page novel) because I never want my time here to end.

An easy 5 out of 5 stars from me with a desire to award more. I am so excited to see there this story can go next …. the door has definitely been left open!
