Sydney Durand had finally achieved the perfect life she had always wanted. After a whirlwind romance with a charming Frenchman, she endured the three weddings it required to satisfy the members of the newly formed Bennett-Durand clan. All she had left to do was stroll into the sunset with Louis to enjoy their long-awaited happily ever after.
But everything changed when the stick turned blue. Suddenly, Sydney finds herself facing the daunting task of becoming a mother before she has even returned home from her honeymoon. Keeping a tenacious hold on her hard-won happiness, Sydney is determined not to give up without a fight – no matter what or who is thrown in her path…and that includes an overbearing mother-in-law, a know-it-all father and her own anxiety about having a baby.
Will she finally be able to tame her neuroses for the sake of her unborn child? Or will her hormone-induced panic cause a meltdown of epic proportions? One thing is clear: Sydney and Louis’ nerves are going to fry…
Take the ever-anxious and high-strung Sydney Durand, add a large dose of pregnancy hormones and top it off with a best friend who has turned into Bridezilla, and you’ve got French Fry.
Sydney’s BFF, Maya, has a significantly larger role as she and Devon prepare for they own HEA. Sydney and Louis, still much in love after their three wedding ceremonies, have a few growing pains that accompany not only adjustment to newly married life but also a growing family. Sydney’s family has a much bigger role as well. Sisters and sisters-in-law are all part of the pregnancy fun. Sydney’s stepfather is the most delightful character in the book!
From the first pregnancy test to the birth of their first child, Louis and Sydney brave all that is thrown at them with the fervor and zaniness that fans of the series have come to expect. Poor Sydney is destined to not have a single zen moment in her life!
Glynis Astie’s writing and story telling is crisp. The plot is well paced, and the characters are engaging. The French Twist series is loosely based on Glynis Astie’s life. Whether based on her life and family or not, I’m looking forward to more of Ms. Astie’s delightful stories.
