Jack McKenna is a man with two very distinct pasts. One ended with a car accident involving his girlfriend, Ally, and a split-second decision with horrific consequences. Desperate to escape the guilt, he carved out a new life for himself. Four years spent hiding in the shadows, punishing himself for not having the courage to go back to her. Then, out of the blue, a phone call forces him to face up to everything and everyone he left behind.

Ally Connor’s life was split in two – before the car accident that shattered her spine, and after Jack’s sudden disappearance. Abandoning her when she needed him most, she fought hard to make it back from the brink. The face she shows to the world is strong and courageous, but behind the mask, the pain is burrowing deeper.

But fate had more in store for these two broken souls than either could have imagined. A funeral, a homecoming and a journey of self-discovery that would change both their lives – if they let it.

Suddenly, the secrets they want to hide from each other are the very secrets that could make them whole again.

***Stephenee – #NerdGirlSteph’s  Review***
This is my first book by author Amanda Dick but it will not be my last!! I was hooked on this book from the very first paragraph.  She packs such an emotional punch in this book and the reader goes through all of the emotions that are possible. You will laugh, cry, yell, cry, scream, cry, and did I mention you will cry?!? Not little tears but big sobbing tears – the story is so real and the accident is in such detail as well as the recovery that you literally feel Ally’s emotions, you feel Jack’s guilt and you feel like there is nothing that you can do to help.  The book leaves you feeling like you were right there with Ally, Jack, Tom and Callum.  I could feel each of their emotions, their regrets and the forgiveness that they are all searching for in their own way.

I love the story that the author has weaved for us. She has a tight knit group  of friends that depend on each other and then it all unravels in the most ugly way. I felt like the author took a very real subject and showed us what it could to do anyone given the chance.  The author did an amazing job in the details, in the way in which she makes the reader feel like they are a part of the story and the way that the reader becomes invested in the story.

I love the way that the author showed how the characters moved on after the accident but it also shows how they were never truly whole again until they were reunited.  I enjoyed learning more about their pasts as well as uncovering the secrets of the present.  The characters were well developed and the plot flowed smoothly throughout the story. The author has a way that makes the readers want to know more about the characters while at the same time never wanting the story to end.  The reader will think about this story, the characters and the actions of them long after the book is finished.

One of my favorite parts of the book was the way that the author had a quote for each chapter.  They fit the chapter so well, and it was obvious that the author took a lot of time to find them.  My favorite was for chapter 7 – “It has been said ‘time heals all wounds’. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone. ” – Rose Kennedy

This is an amazing book by an author who is full of talent and destined for great things.  Make sure you add this to your TBR list and move it to the top quickly. It is a can’t miss, must read!  Enjoy and have plenty of tissues ready for when you are reading, you will need them!
