***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.
Ever since she was a child, Ivy has been gripped by visions of strange realms just beyond her own. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.
Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn’t mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn’t: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between…
Now true to form, I didn’t read The Beautiful Ashes when I got the book because I wanted to wait until she announced the sequel. AND she did but the end of this year to get my greedy hands on the second installment of the BROKEN DESTINY SERIES is way too long!! Maybe if I write her daily love letters, she will send me something other than a restraining order.
I read The Beautiful Ashes twice before I decided to write this review. NOT because it sucked. NOT because I had nothing else to read. BUT because I needed to in order to absorb the magnitude of the world she built and to squash any of the nagging questions in my head. (Oh and to stop myself from comparing Adrian to Bones ~ giggles)
Ivy lost pretty much everything. Her sister goes missing, a tragic twist regarding her parents was thrown her way and she barely had any “real” friends. Was anything in Ivy’s world real? She had been plagued with visions all her life and had been labeled “insane” her whole life. She couldn’t lose her sister too, so while looking for her she RUNS or rather is saved by ADRIAN.
Adrian is a smoking hot ummm “something” that is on a quest to clean his hands of his past. They are forced by an ARCHON named Zach to work together to recover a relic that can save her sister. All the while Jeaniene Frost kept her writing in tune with the same beautiful witty way she wrote her Dark Huntress Series.
Regardless of the maddening sexual tension, her new venture into the new adult genre and the “getting to know you phase” of my new top 10 favorite characters I give her introduction to the Broken Destiny world a solid 5 stars!!
I have forever been grateful for your writing Jeaniene so I tip my Nerd Girl Hat to you and bow to your greatness!!
