Hi everyone!!

My name is Darlene Kuncytes, and I am doing a guest blog today! I want to thank Nerd Girls for having me and Gladys for making sure I got everything. She is awesome!

I was told that I could do my guest blog about anything, which believe it or not is really hard!  I’m never quite sure what to talk about. There are so many things floating around in my head that it’s hard to choose – but the one thing I DO promise is to NOT talk about is whether the dress is White/Gold or Blue/Black!! LMAO! I promise!

Let’s talk about why I do what I do and how if you are an aspiring author what you need to do.

I really believe that I came out of the womb with a love of books and writing. One of my favorite memories growing up is – on rainy days; my mom and I would sit at the kitchen table and “make” books. I would write the story, then we would draw the pictures and she would bind it all together into our very own book.  As you can probably imagine…I loved rainy days!

I have always been a day dreamer. Random thoughts and scenario’s will just pop into my head. It took a long time for me to get up enough nerve to actually put it out there, but I can honestly say – it has been an absolute, dream come true for me.  This is what I have always wanted to do.

I have people ask me all the time if I get writer’s block. And if so, what do I do. Well, I walk away for a bit and do something else. I might clean or swim or whatever, but as I do that, I let my mind wander.  Usually, after a bit, it comes back. My big thing is that I can’t force it. I want my story to flow from me as my characters intend it to. If you listen, they will speak to you.

I believe we all have a story in us. We just need to let it out. Not be afraid to put yourself out there. Writing is a very personal thing, yet it’s something that you can share with someone that allows them to lose themselves for a bit. When someone contacts me to tell me that they fell in love with my characters, or that my book brought them to tears because it touched them – well, there is absolutely no better feeling.

I want everyone out there who has that story to tell to not be afraid to let your voice be heard! Write like you are writing only for yourself. Love what you write and write what you love. Let life, people, music…let it all inspire you!

I hope that I haven’t bored you all too much! Thank you all for taking the time to get to know me a little bit. And thank you Nerd Girls for having me!! You guys rock it like rock stars!! LOL!!

INdy Author Talk QAQ. Where are you from?

Does the area you live in influence you writing? I am from Willowick, Ohio. I really don’t think it does. I have been lucky enough to have done some travelling, so I really think the places I have been are a huge influence.

Q. Tell us your latest news??

Well. I just released Book 3 in The Supernatural Desire Series!! I am so excited about it. Marcus’ Mortal Embrace!!! The response has been overwhelming and I can’t tell you how excited I am. I am almost done with a Suspense/romance that is contemporary and not part of the series that I am SUPER excited about! I am hoping for an April release on that if all goes as planned!!!

Q.  When and why did you begin writing?  What inspired you to write your first book?

Oh, gosh! I have ALWAYS loved to read and write. I can’t tell you how many unfinished stories I have packed away. Lol. The first book in my series just sort of came to me as I was driving home from work one night. I was daydreaming and the next thing I knew, it was pouring out of me!!

Q.  What book(s) / author(s) have influenced your life and writing?

Wow! That is such a hard one. The first “adult” book I ever read was John Saul’s Suffer the Children. I actually did a book report on it – MUCH to my teachers chagrin!! LOL!! I was always ahead in the reading department and she made the mistake of telling me to pick whatever book I wanted to write a report on. Believe me, after having me stand up there, explaining about a ghost possessing a girl and her killing other children – she always had to see the books I chose after that. Lol I love Stephen King. I know a lot of his books kind of go off the rails at the end, but he writes people so real. I love that! Hard to believe that a romance writer is a huge horror fan, huh?

Q. Tell us about your characters and how they came to be?

Have they been in your head for a long time? Well, they kind of just started speaking to me. I think there are parts of me and people I know in all of them. Not to mention, my dream man. LOL

 Q.  What motivates you to write?

This is going to sound SO cheesy, but it is so true. The first book I wrote I did it solely for myself. It was number one on my bucket list to be a published writer. I honestly wasn’t expecting the reaction that I got. What motivates me now is when someone contacts me and tells me how much my book touched them. I love my characters, and when someone tells me that they have fallen in love with them as well – well, that is like a shot of adrenaline! It makes what I do mean so much. I had a wonderful lady contact me after reading book 3 to say that she had just got out of an abusive relationship, and Marcus’ story gave her the hope that she could find her happy ending. OMG! I was sitting there crying my eyes out! That is motivation!

Q.  What is the hardest part of writing?

When I hit a road block! LOL! There are times when I know what I want to say, but it just isn’t coming! So, what I do is walk away for a bit. Do something else and let the characters start talking again.

Q.  Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?

I would have to say, the most important thing that I learned from writing book 1 is to NEVER give up. I would never have ever hoped that at this point in my life I could achieve my dream of becoming an author. But, I have!

Q.  Where do you get your ideas?

Everywhere!! LOL! My little brain is constantly going! It could be a song I hear that just hits me a certain way. Even a picture or a place. I have always been a dreamer.

Q.  What does your family think of your writing?

Well, my sister cried through the entire first book! LOL! Even to this day, she will sometimes look at me and say “I still can’t believe that you wrote that!” lol My family is awesome! They are my backbone, my cheerleaders…my support! They are excited.

Q.  What is the best advice you would give to inspiring authors?

To NEVER give up. Love what you write. Don’t force it. Let those voices talk to you in their own time. The worst thing you could do is to say…I can’t do this. If you write from your heart because you love the characters and the story, well, that’s more than half the battle!

Q.  What book are you reading now?

Actually, I just finished Shattered by Alex Grayson. It was intense and amazing. I really don’t have a lot of time to read, but when I do – I try to read other independent authors. There is just so much talent out there!
