Losing those he loves seems to be a trend for Jonathon Benns, so he decides not to let anyone into his heart ever again. When an eight year old boy who loses everyone he loves enters Jonathon’s life, it restarted Jonathon’s heart. Will the damaged heart heals and the lost soul finding his way back to life?
A year has gone by since Jon has lost the love of his life Meadow to a tragic accident, but he tries to take one day at a time to not be in the funk he was before by working with his grandfather on his ranch, being around his friends in the community, and spending time with his girlfriend April. Even though April loves Jon a lot she can’t help but feel that he is trying to make her do things that Meadow would do, like stay and visit people after church for a long time when all she would like to do is go home and relax and spend some quality time together. Jon doesn’t understand where she’s coming from so she decides to break it off because she knows she and Jon want different things and he may never truly see April as April and not as Meadow. While Jon is upset over the breakup, he suffers an even greater loss. Going through so much so fast Jon isn’t sure if he’ll be able to move on this time. After getting drunk and making a few very stupid mistakes, Jon gets hurt at his ranch. A physical therapist, named Tara, comes to help him and after a few sessions tells him about this boy, Jim, who’s an 8 year old and was in a car accident with his parents. His parents unfortunately didn’t survive the accident and Jim has also lost part of his leg. He doesn’t have any other family so Tara thought he could stay with Jon for a while, as his legal guardian. Jon agrees and he and Jim become close and Jon shows Jim the community and his ranch as best as he can. Jim is very smart and very helpful and Jon realizes that Jim coming into his life, though wishes the circumstances were different, was the best thing for both of them. It’s a very touching story about going through loss and trying to decide where your faith lies and why things happen the way that they do.
