An alien world, where paranormals exist side-by-side with humans, comes out of hiding when Joslyn and her family move to Valdez. In the midst of adapting to their new life, Joslyn stumbles across two dangerous situations that she must bring to the attention of the powerful mage/vampire hybrid who leads the city’s paranormals.
Though the first is easily dealt with, the second is far more dangerous—a serial killer with a paranormal edge. Can Joslyn hold back the growing darkness within her as she and the hybrid face the dangers? Can she hold back from falling in love with the un-dead leader?
Edgey and dark. Joslyn has a recently dark past and her family has been exiled from a mage commune. She and her family are thrown into a society where paranormals and humans exist in peace. They have been taught things in the commune that don’t apply to this society and must come to terms with this new lifestyle. Once in town they find out about a couple murders and some unsavory types that need to be dealt with. Joslyn is a very powerful mage that has a dark past and possibly a dark future if she cannot control the darkness within. This story has a lot of promise for a great series. The characters are easy to relate to but I wish we knew more about them. Some scenes felt like they were cut short or that they were rushed but you are still able to follow the story. I felt like some of the backstory wasn’t developed enough. Overall this is a solid 4 star read. Reader beware, there is a cliffhanger. Great concept and I am looking forward to the sequel.
