Love never dies…but it can kill.
Ember is the story of Max Valentine, a teenager with secret abilities and many inner demons. His life revolves around music and his love for it. When his father dies he seeks answers with his last living relative, his fathers brother Frank. Frank lives on the island of Maui and eagerly takes Max in as his own. Max soon learns that healing his past will be more difficult than he could have ever believed.
Max’s temper and indecision will send in motion events that will cost him dearly. He will test the limits of his powers and the new relationship with his protective uncle. He will gain a powerful love and lose another. Blood will be on his hands, forcing him to run away from what he wants the most…a new start.
This book was the first book that I have read by Author Madison Daniel, but it will not be the last! He is a new to me author and I am glad that I have found him!! This story grabbed my attention from the very first paragraph and it never let go. I felt like I was on a roller coaster as I read this book, the twists, turns, plunges, highs, lows and drops never stopped. It was fast and it was fun and it was an amazing ride. I loved it! I loved everything about this book ~ the characters, the story, the plot, the love triangle, the losses and even the setting. The author did an amazing job with bringing everything to life for the reader and I need the next book in the series NOW!! I can’t believe the cliffhanger that he left us with and I need to know what happens next!
Max, Sam and Asia are three very different characters, yet they are all united by love – the author makes the reader love all of them and even I couldn’t give you a straight answer about which one I liked best – this is a love triangle that will leave you with a book hangover so huge it will take lots of books afterwards before you can think of moving on. I am glad that I am not the one who has to choose if it will be #TeamSam or #TeamAsia because there is no way I could choose. You will be plotting and planning the next step for the characters long after you have finished reading this one.
The setting in which the book is based is in Hawaii and it felt like the white sand beaches, rolling waves and bright blue skies were with me as I was reading this in the dark winter of NJ. It was peaceful and so full of detail that I could actually picture myself in Hawaii. I loved the details that the author used – there was never any questions or doubts as I was reading because the author made sure to make everything crystal clear (like the water there). I was amazed at how well I was able to picture the entire story. I also enjoyed that each chapter had a song that the author was either thinking of or listening to at the time that he was writing it – the songs really went over well with me as I love music almost as much as I love reading. It was fun to listen to the songs as I was thinking about what happened in the chapter and they made so much sense that I wondered how long it took for him to find a song that matched – it was also fun for me to broaden my horizons with some of the songs (and I’m not gonna lie, I downloaded a few from iTunes). This book has it all!!
I highly recommend that you add this one to your TBR list as well as the next because you will need to know what happens next with as little wait in between as possible. You won’t want to stop reading once you start, so make sure you allow plenty of time before you start this one! It is a non-stop thrill ride and one in which you won’t want to get off of – even when you reach the end. Pick this book up today, you won’t be sorry!
