***Katie – #NerdGirlKtLBLy’s Review***
I’ve read a few other stories by Magnus Tor and Carrie Lynn Weniger and they were good but kind of cheeky at the same time, with “First Love: A Man’s Love” it was completely different. Its tone is much more serious. Jon and Meadow are about to be married in a week. Meadow is coming home from college and Jon is on his family’s ranch waiting for her. There is a bad storm going on and Jon hopes she’ll get there soon. However, before she gets there, Jon’s best friend Pete, who is with the police force, comes to deliver horrible news. On the way to Jon’s place Meadow was in a car accident and didn’t make it. Jon of course doesn’t want to believe it and it takes him a while to not only believe it but to come to grips with it. He’s a devout Christian man but after the accident he even starts to question his faith a little. The story is told in present day with past memories of the two of them interwoven between. At first it was a little confusing but after awhile you can tell what he’s remembering and it doesn’t slow the story down because it’s they are very quick. It seemed like a very realistic story of a man grieving and him slowly trying to move on and get his life back on track. Along the way there are a few bumps but with family and friends there to help and support him, Jon may just have a happy ending after all.
