Title: The Queen of Carleon (Avalyne Series, #1)
Author: Linda Thackeray
Published Date: August 9th 2014
***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
The Shadow War has come and gone and the kingdom of Carleon is now restored. King Dare, a mortal man has finally wedded his elven love Arianne. As they prepare to usher in a new era of prosperity across the land, the Queen happily announces the impending arrival of an heir.
Arianne’s joy is short-lived when she discovers that an ancient evil has emerged from the wreckage of war with a monstrous plan for her baby. Determined to protect her very mortal husband, Arianne embarks on a quest with her two companions, the warrior maid Celene of Angarad and Keira of the Green, to journey to the far corners of Avalyne before the enemy can plant a seed of evil in the heart of her unborn son.
I love a book with a heroine with no weaknesses – – and that certainly applies to Arianne, Queen of Carleon.
Male and female readers alike will love her and admire the loyalty of her friends. Of course, she had to be something special to marry a human in the first place, breaking all the rules as she did to do so.
You, especially any mothers amongst you, will sympathise with Arianne as she and her friends tour the realm to defeat the threat to not only her child but also her kingdom’s future.
Whatever you look for in a fantasy story, it’s here – – magic, battles with mythical creatures: it has the lot.
Although I gave this five stars as a lower number would have been unfair I expect the next in the series to be even better as now, we know the Kingdom. However I will still only have five to give: pity!
