***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
When thirteen-year-old Ethan Morus is forced to stay on his grandparent’s old farm, he expects to find weathered barns, rusty tools, and a creaky house in need of fresh paint. What he doesn’t expect is to hear a legend placing his family at the center of an ancient treasure hunt. Or find burial chambers protected by poltergeists, or a secret lair guarded by an ancient beast. And least of all, Ethan doesn’t suspect that powerful sorcerers are watching his every move.
They’ve found Ethan and believe he is from a line of treasure hunters who possess a rare instinct to locate powerful artifacts. Whether he has the instinct or not, Ethan is faced with a choice—search the Morus property and find what they want or lose yet another family member.
Attention long time fans of the Neverending Story and the lifelong lovers of the Choose Your Own Adventure books, grab this novel and your middle school kid, get comfortable and enjoy the adventure that you are about experience.
Regardless if you’re a late 30 year (raising eyebrow) old woman or an 11 year old child the “fly by the seat of your pants” thrill ride will have you anticipating every turn of the page.
JR has filled the missing piece in the middle grade paranormal genre. The has been a void since the Spiderwick Chronicles Series, Percy Jackson Series and Harry Potter Series ended. I feel the beginnings of a “void filling” series (so to speak). AND this is just the beginning so you know it will just become more and more in depth and intricate as JR builds Ethan’s world page by page, word by word, and adds more characters and more personalities.
Enjoy your read. Enjoy the world that your mind is about to live in for however long your are within the pages of the book, because I did. It stirred a lot of emotions within me. For a day and a half I was 13, reading The Hunter Awakens as my feet swung back and forth on the kitchen chair, while cookies were cooking in the oven.
JR, I tip my Nerd Girl hat to you and bow to Ethan for his bravery. 5 Stars to you and him (shhhhhhhh… I guess you get a 10)
