***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
She sent an innocent man to prison. Now, eight years later, he’s returning the favor…
I’ve been obsessed with Rafe Mason since I was thirteen. The twisted part of this story is that I still want him, even now.
Now that he’s holding me captive on an island.
Rafe has his reasons for doing what he’s doing, and if I’m honest, I can’t blame him. I’m the girl who sent him to prison for a heinous crime he didn’t commit.
But now he’s free and the tables have turned…now he’s the one driven by obsession.
TORRENT is a new adult dark romance with disturbing themes and explicit content, including sexual scenes and violence that may offend some. Intended for mature audiences. Part one of the CONDEMNED series. This is not a stand-alone read. Approximately 43,000 words.
The plot for me, had a lot of holes. For instance, Alex was being raped by her stepbrother yet there’s no mention of why he’s obsessed with her or how nobody could notice it. I need to know why her stepbrother, Zach, is so hellbent on being with her when they’re step-siblings. And Alex seems to think that she deserves it because she gets off on it. That is just really messed up. There are more examples I could give that are like this, with information missing, but we’d be here all day.
Alex does not grow at all in this book. Neither does Rafe. Alex to me is a very one-dimensional character. She goes from one bad situation to another and when offered the chance to be released from Rafe’s island, she says she doesn’t want to leave; that he’s the love of her life. Sure he’s really nice to look at, but he forces her into situations that should have alarms going off in her head. But instead, she again, feels like she deserves the pain.
Rafe is insanely hot and that’s the only thing that he’s got going for him. I get that he’s pissed that he was falsely accused of rape and wants to settle the score, but the things he makes her do are just degrading. I wanted to knee him below the belt when he made her give his roommate a blow job in front of him, yet it hurt him to watch because he cares for her. Seriously? If that’s caring about a woman then please, do not sign me up.
The book ends on a really bad cliffhanger as well. It leaves more questions asked than anything answered. I can understand authors wanting to drag out the suspense, but it needs to make sense and nothing in this book made any sense to me. There is a second book in this series, but I will not be reading it.
