Cendall, history’s first female Grim Reaper, has until her eighteenth birthday to prove she’s worthy of the role. The only obstacle in her way are those pesky Guardian Angels who protect human souls, but Cendall is certain she can handle any Guardian who gets in her way.

However, nothing could have prepared Cendall for Lacie—a soul that is protected by multiple Guardians, wanted by Demons, and, most startling of all, can see Cendall.
Cendall uses every trick in the book to try and slip past Lacie’s Guardians and collect her soul, but a Demon interferes at the last moment. In the chaos, Cendall accidently saves Lacie’s soul, along with one of the injured Guardians. Realizing Cendall fears termination for her mistake, the Guardian blackmails her with an offer she can’t refuse: in exchange for his silence, Cendall must keep Lacie’s soul safe from the Demon, until he recovers from his injuries. Cendall agrees—with the intention of checking Lacie’s soul off her list, the instant the Guardian is healed. But as the three of them are forced to work together, Cendall begins to question why Lacie is wanted by the Demons and if her name actually belonged on Cendall’s list in the first place.

***Katie – #NerdGirlKtLBLy’s Review***
Being the only female Grim Reaper, ever, Cendall has a lot to prove that she should be out there also with the boys. Her father was the best and since he retired, and her mother passed away in childbirth, she wants to carry on their name and be the top of the class. From age 6-16 she has trained to become a true Reaper. After she graduates, she and her classmates are given a list of people they have collect souls from. Since humans can’t see Reapers, it’s not too hard to get their soul when it’s their time. Cendall doesn’t think it’s going to be a big deal until she meets Lacie. Lacie seems like a normal, healthy. Sweet girl and Cendall thinks it’s going to be easy, a quick accident, until Lacie’s Guardian, Trevor, helps her and the accident doesn’t go as planned. Upset but still needing Lacie’s soul she goes off to collect other people’s souls until Lacie’s is ready. One day watching her a bunch of demons come trying to capture Lacie first. A lot of guardians protect her but a lot of them also get hurt including Trevor. Lacie sees Cendall somehow and asks for help. Not knowing what to do Cendall teleports her and Trevor somewhere far away where the demons won’t be. They strike up a deal that until Trevor is properly healed and can continue watching over Lacie, Cendall won’t go for her soul. Reluctantly Cendall agrees and they start to watch over Lacie together just in case they have to make a quick escape. Over time a close friendship forms between all of them. Cendall starts to second guess some of the decisions she has to deal with like why Lacie was even on the list when she seems to be a young healthy person, and also finds out from a classmate something devastating that will change her entire Reaping career and her life completely.
I thought it was a great read. It was cute and exciting. The only thing I wish differently is I wish it was longer. I wish the characters roles were explained a little more. Otherwise it was a great read. Part two is coming soon and I’m definitely going to follow up with this series.
