***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
The Kelly Family is back, and this time, they’ve got a score to settle!
After years of dealing with his cheating ex-girlfriend’s betrayal, Detective Levi Hawks has found love again with Marina Kelly, something he never truly believed would happen for him. And when an unexpected foe rises from the past and begins to threaten her entire family, Levi will do anything to find the culprits and bring them to justice. But what happens when his own past comes calling? Will Levi hold tight to the woman who picked up the pieces and brought joy back into his life, or will he make the mistake of going back to the woman who broke his heart to begin with?
Where There’s Smoke features all the Kellys you met in the first 4 novellas (Ethan, Storm, Frankie & Marina), bringing them all together to solve a case that threatens each of their lives. Get to know the family a little better in this first full-length Kelly Family novel!
This is basically Levi and Marina’s story and you will see the rest of the Kelly family in the book as well. The book picks up where Marina’s story ends and shows you how she grows in her relationship with Levi. She’s never wanted to date a cop but here she is in a relationship with one. Like I said in my review of Marina’s story, she’s incredibly independent and strong. She continues to be herself in this book, but she does grow and learn what it means to be involved with a cop. She learns what her mother went through everyday that her father would walk out the door and into the job. Her trust in Levi is tested when someone from Levi’s past shows up out of the blue. You’ll see how she deals with that person and whether or not she decides to trust Levi with her heart.
Levi is awesome! He’s incredibly patient with Marina about her fears of his job and he shows her everyday that he loves her unconditionally. The support that Levi shows her when she has to interact with her dad is just amazing. He doesn’t blink when he’s thrown into situations with Mike Kelly. As a detective, Levi is looking into the strange break-ins and personal attacks on the Kelly family. As he pieces things together, he turns to Marina’s uncle Mitch for help and learns a lot more about Mike Kelly. Just when things with Marina are going better than imagined, someone from his past shows up and tries to wiggle her way back into his life. Does he fall for old tricks, or does he trust the love he has for Marina? You’ll have to read it to find out. I love that Levi grows throughout the book. He changes in subtle ways but you can see he’s different than when you first read about him in the novella about Marina. Trust me, he’s one book boyfriend you have to meet.
The story flows together wonderfully and it ties in all four of the previous novellas. You get a better feel for how the family works together to avoid their dad’s attacks on their lives. There is one scene in the novel that will touch lightly on BDSM with Storm. It’s not graphic, but done very tastefully and it works with the novel. I really hope that Storm will get his own novel soon because I’d love to read more.
