I grew up in a world of magic. By the time I was ten I understood nature, talked to the trees, and listened to the wind. When the kingdom of men conquered my town, I was murdered by one of my own—the betrayer of my kind.
But I didn’t stay dead.
I woke to find myself in a strange new world called Los Angeles. The only keys to the life I remembered were my father’s ring, my unique abilities, and the onslaught of demons that seemed hell-bent on finding me. Now I must learn who I really am, protect my friends, get the girl, and find my way back to my beloved hometown of Orenda.

***Katie – #NerdGirlKtLBLy Review***
It starts out with Edmund as a simple 10 year old getting food from the forest with his friends Ralph and Hailey. On the way home they notice something seems a bit off. They all have a little bit of magic in them and Edmunds is his ability to communicate with nature. He asks the tree if it may communicate with the other trees to show or tell him  what the problem is and it turns out that his home called Orenda is being taken over by humans and dark shadows. He sees an elder and his former teacher named Joshua seeming to be at the entrance holding people off. Through the vision Joshua tells them to hurry home because most of the people have  either fled or have been killed and he will try to wait for them to help them. They race home and Joshua tells them he can’t help them now but to go run and hide and he will find them. After waiting a while Joshua doesn’t seem to find them or come for them so Edmund and his friends try to run away but get separated. He tries to find his father in a separate secret room in the parliment building where his father worked but his father unfortunately got killed in the raid. He left Edmund a ring and an unfinished letter and Edmund tries to finally run away for good. He gets stopped by a very suprising person and is killed in the forest. However he wakes up later in a hospital bed in an unknown location where everyone is calling him Alexander and says that he’s 12 years old. Now Edmund has to figure out where he is, how’d he get there, what happened for those 2 lost years and if he looks like himself why is everyone calling him Alexander.
The story takes place over many years and it is very interesting. The characters are likeable and your really rooting for him to figure everything out. The very end has such a touching moment that you may not cry hysterically, you’ll probably let out a few tears.
