***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
The only thing you can plan for in life is change.
There are caves located in the foothills of the Appalachians which run through North Alabama. Quiet and mostly untouched land surrounds them as the mountains fall lazily toward the Tennessee River waterway. Decades ago men hid their stills in those caves. Today something much more sinister is cooking within them.
Jessica Mackenzie made a plan for herself early on; she dedicated herself to it and worked the hell out of it. Until four men got in the way. Life turned on a dime and kept spinning as though it hung by a string.
If you’re lucky you work through the changes in life, become stronger by surviving and learn the only thing that really matters — the real deal― is love.
The first half of the book moves rather slowly but none of the characters really develop and react the way they needed to for a story like this to work. A lot of the book relies on you connecting with the lead and she didn’t give me anything to grab hold of and run with.
I found the information about certain situations (such as the father’s health issues) to be sporadic and this made it difficult for me to invest in.
About halfway through the story line does begin to move at a better pace and as more things start happening it definitely became a more interesting read.
My advice to the author would be that the bones for a good book are in there, they just need some work to help it along.
2 1/2 out of 5 Stars from me – rounded up to 3 as per my protocol.
