Author: Angelisa Stone
Published Date: September 26th 2013
***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
Everyone has secrets; secrets meant to be kept—hidden away where nobody can discover the truth. Adrian O’Donnell (aka: Dre Donley) is no exception. Dre spins tales and half-truths like it’s his job, keeping the reality of his past buried deep within each lie he fabricates. On the other hand, Kathryn Howell is the exception to the rule. She’s a straight-shooter, a tell-it-like-it-is, no filter kind of girl.
Kathryn’s honesty and straightforwardness is the ultimate turn on for a guy like Dre. He’s never met someone so sincere, so full of truth and innocence. Their chemistry is unavoidable, their connection, magnetic. When Dre sets out to make Kathryn fall for him, he doesn’t realize the grave mistake he’s making. Kathryn’s strength and convictions do not falter, even for an irresistible man like Dre. When his past resurfaces, and the lies come tumbling forth, Kathryn must decide if his deceit and betrayal can be forgiven or if the damage is irreparable. Will the truth ultimately destroy the relationship that neither one of them could deny or even attempt to resist?
I decided to take a chance on this “New to Me” author and I’m so glad I did. This will not be the last book that I read by her! This book is a great example of why you should take chances on unknown authors and books you have never heard of. They are much less predictable than the “famous” authors and bring a new feel and storyline to the books that they write. This book contained all of the important things that a great story needs: yes there was some angst, yes there was humor, yes there was very well written, well versed and crafty writing, and yes there was some serious “steamy romance”. This being Angelisa’s first novel, she has proven that she’s a master of spinning a fabulous tale that readers will love and have them eagerly looking forward to her next book.
This book had a twist that many people would never see coming and has the reader asking themselves “Would this secret that the man I was falling in love with, change how I felt about him at all?” I know that for me the answer would be a resounding NO! This book contains much more than an average girl meets a hot guy, there’s angst & drama and then they get it on. It’s got an unpredictable twist, a twist that may freak people out about, but then you have to ask yourself, why and what would you do?
I loved the author’s character development and the details that she included in the story. I felt myself relating Kathryn’s character on more than one occasion. I loved her spirit, her honesty, the fact that she uses the weight watchers app and just pretty much everything about her. She’s smart and not afraid to speak her mind. I loved how she doesn’t instantly fall for Dre’s full-proof-panty-dropping smile, charm or antics, but don’t let her strong façade fool you, she definitely lusts after him. As Dre’s secrets start to unravel, I couldn’t help but be moved by his strength and determination to move forward and to make a difference. I loved reading about how when Kathryn finally finds out, she remains steadfast at his side.
This story was such a joy to read. The writing was phenomenal. The story was delivered flawlessly and I really connected with all the primary and secondary characters. I cannot wait to see what this author writes next. The story is told from alternating points of view and this works really well in this book as their thoughts are candid and witty. The banter/jokes are laugh out loud funny and highly original and there’s plenty going on with Kathryn’s nerdy ex – gloriously dubbed Theo-dorable – and their buddies yummy Rory and porn star BFF Sydney that kept me interested and entertained. This is a summer must have and should be added to your TBR list asap!! Sit back with a drink and prepare to fall in love with this book!
