***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
Millie has struggled over the years to keep the spark alive in her relationship. Starting at a young age her life has been a series of trials and tribulations, and it’s only getting more complicated. She’s followed stepping stones that she wasn’t always sure were leading her in the right direction, causing her to wonder if she is on the right path.
Her husband, Brian, loves her dearly, but has a poor way of showing it. Stress easily beats him down, and his own protective nature seems to fight against him. He’s shutting down, virtually ignoring and alienating the people around him when they need him the most.
Millie lost her job and they’re about to lose the house. On the verge of losing it all, she questions everything. Where did it all go wrong? How did they get to this point? However, the answers could be more unsettling than anticipated.
Hearts will be broken when long held secrets are revealed. Is a chance at happiness worth the destruction it leaves in its wake? Is it worth the risk? Worth the pain for everyone involved? Worth the effort? Is she somebody worth it?
This book contains adult material. It may make you laugh, make you sad, make you happy, and may make you cry. Of course, the author isn’t responsible for these emotions!
I have read several of Nickie’s (she is one of my new favorite authors after all) books and at the end of each one I think to myself that this one is the best one yet, until the next one comes along. This book is the best one yet, and yet it so different than her other books, but at the same time it follows along with the types of books that she writes, which are, books about real people. The characters aren’t picture perfect, they aren’t Hollywood Swoon Worthy (most of the time), but they are someone that you could meet on any street and feel like you are friends with them. I love the fact that there are no size 0 princess-like divas in the story, but rather someone who gets puffy eyes when they cry or zits on their foreheads, because let’s face it who doesn’t get a little tired of reading about perfection?!?!?
Her books portray real life situations happening to fictional characters, but you feel as if you know them and feel their pain, their wants and needs, their love, and their conflict right there with them. The emotions of these characters jump right off the page and draw you in without a second thought. This book has you laughing, crying, yelling and just being very emotional throughout the story!
The situation that we find Millie in is one that most of us hope to never be in ourselves, we all hope when we say “I do” that we will be getting our happily ever after and nothing can or will ever go wrong. But things do go wrong in real life and I believe Nickie did an amazing job of portraying one woman’s struggles going through all of this. The story takes the reader through all of the couple’s frustrations which are financial, emotional and physical. The story is so realistic that readers can relate to it and the characters without a doubt. Then when I thought everything was finally going to settle down and I could see the happily ever after in the not so distant future, the cliffhanger happened!!!! I cursed, yelled and all but emailed the author to ask her WTF?!?!? I really hope that I don’t have to wait very long to see what comes next for Millie, Brian, and Dean.
There is so much that I want to say about this book, but I can’t, because it is something that everyone must read themselves. It is also a story that you will need to have the afternoon clear for because it is one that you will not want to put down once you start reading it. It moved along at an amazing pace from beginning to end, has characters that you will fall in love with and a story that will keep you entertained and interested from beginning to end, not to mention the cliffhanger at the end that will have you thinking about it long after you finish the book. Add this to your TBR list and pick it up soon because it is a can’t be missed book!!
