Grace Johnson left her “life” in Alabama to help her cousin and Uncle in a small town in Wyoming. Grace’s imagination had her coming up with numerous ideas and plans for her future. She didn’t have a clue. Making the decision to move on, she never guessed how her life would change or that at 42 years old she would find herself falling in love and chasing a childhood dream.

***#NerdGirlJulie’s  Review***
Moving On by Kendal Waller is a quick-paced read. It is an ideal book to bring for a day at the beach/pool. This better-late-than-never story is about starting to live your life at any age. If able to give half-stars, I’d have given this book 3.5 stars.

I appreciated that Ms. Waller kept the number of characters in check; each one adding something interesting or critical to the plot or the development of other characters. Ranchers Cole & Tommy are hunky and quiet. Brian, also a rancher, seems to be more balanced person than the two bachelor ranchers. Melanie and Kera, Grace’s sidekicks, are minimally developed, but they add tremendously to the reader’s understanding of Grace. My one complaint is about the character Shane, Kera’s boyfriend. He comes out of nowhere as the bad guy, and his reasons for executing the climatic event were a bit of a stretch for me. However, he is well portrayed as a demented individual.

The story is about Grace and her leap of faith into her future. Grace moves on solely because she has been pushed into action by a call to duty from her cousin who needs help taking care of his elderly parents who live on a ranch/farm. I would have liked more introspection from Grace on why she stuck with a lack-luster, status-quo eight year relationship back in Alabama. While she isn’t confident about her appearance, Grace is strong and independent. She’s not looking for a man to take care of her. She is resigned to being single, living the quiet life in Wyoming, and continuing to write “so-so” books. As she settles into her new life, she finds friendship and love.

Moving On is a very enjoyable romance/thriller that is not too saccharine but delivers a satisfying HEA ending. Ms. Waller’s writing continues to improve with each book she publishes. I’m looking forward to her next good read!
