When Katherine “Kate” leaves for her freshmen year at college, a grounded and stable piece of her is missing. She pushes away the ghosts of her past, determined to start her college life single, carefree and distracted.
Throughout high school Kate was reserved and shy, with little experience. Now, on her own, with little holding her back, Kate is ready to branch out. She bonds with a tight knit group of friends and even starts casually dating. What starts out as innocent flirting on the tennis courts slowly turns into a friendship and eventually something more complex. Reed comes into her life giving her the distraction she craves more than anything; but is she ready to give her heart away so easily?
Things get complicated when Kate’s ex-boyfriend and first love continues to pursue her. Kyle deeply regrets breaking her heart when he left for college the year before and is now on a mission to reclaim her. Kyle’s persistence and relentlessness is nothing short of obsessive. He will stop at nothing to win her back and prove his love.
Kate finds herself torn between her past and the unknown of the future. Her determination to stay distracted may just be her downfall or the beginning of something new and wonderful.

***Gladys #NerdGirlOfficial’s Review***
Kate like most freshmen going off to college wants to start off with a clean slate.  She has old hurts but she is no longer broken (or so she thinks).  She has moved on and is moving forward.  I can relate and I am sure you can relate if you have been dumped.  Come on you have been dumped!!  You just want to just move on, find the “Perfect Distraction”.  Melissa Rolka did a wonderful job conveying the innocence and the shyness character that is coming to her own in the world.

SIDENOTE:  Actually if you want to talk about character development Rolka did a good job bringing her characters to life.  Even side characters, like Maggie, Quinn, Jenna and the rest of the gang were well thought out.  They worked well together and flowed like a true clicky type college group would.  Oh to be 20ish again…  ANYWHO!!

Kate does begin to make a life for herself.  College, friends, running and tennis…  Ohhhhhhhhh…  AND AT THE TENNIS COURT SHE MEETS REED!!! Reed Reed Reed.  Reed is a blue eyed beautiful perfect distraction who is in her territory.  The tennis court.  (Insert Groan HERE)  She is so not ready to date again.  Right??  Sigh…  Reed is confident, patient, and oh so well you know.   Irresistible.  Trouble is well, her ex-boyfriend Kyle makes an appearance.  Kyle wants her back and he rips the bandage off old wounds and takes some of the flesh with it.  Kate is confused and Rolka conveys the emotions very clearly.  You get sucked in.  Ohhhhhh love triangles.  They do suck don’t they?

OK I am so not going into anymore.  I honestly think I have said enough to tell you that it is an awesome book.  Written very well and I truly enjoyed it.  ONE THING ~ Sooooo sooooo sooooo glad that Rolka had me review her Perfect Distraction when Perfect Emotion was already out!  Save yourself some OMG BUG EYED moment at the end of the book and get the second book at the same time you get the first!  I tip my #NerdGirl hat to you Melissa!!!
