***THIS BOOK WAS GIVEN TO ME IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW***
Michael Warden used to live a normal life. A successful entrepreneur, he had everything until his life got taken away from him. Literally. Now he is trapped in a world that shouldn’t exist, fighting things that should only exist in nightmares in a quest to find out the truth about what happened to him.
Lacy Holloway is finally content in the little town of Oakland, Garrett Co. Working at the local university, she has finally allowed herself to move on from the one thing that had haunted her past. Aside from an unsettling string of suicides at her place of work, Lacy is happy. Then a new colleague enters her life. Michael is handsome, smart and their friendship is instant… Easy.
That is, until another student attempts to take her own life and Lacy is hurled into a world of nightmares which she soon discovers Michael is already a part of. As they are forced to face demons, both the supernatural and the emotional kind, they also have to face the realization that they are both beginning to feel things for each other that neither of them expected, least of all Michael. As well as trying not to fall too deeply for the woman who has captivated him, he is shocked to discover things about his very existence that could change both their lives and the world as they know it.
Lacy Holloway is happy in her small town, moving on from her past she works at the university and finds herself building a friendship with her new colleague Michael. The university has had a string of suicides and with one more suicide attempt Lucy finds herself thrown into the same nightmares Michael already lives. They both find themselves fighting demons metaphorically and literally, getting closer to the answers Michael so desperately seeks.
I did initially find this book hard to get into, it was a little of a slow start for me, but like most readers I have rules on giving up on books to soon. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review, so unless it was awful I wouldn’t have given up on it so easily anyway. But like I said, I give a book a few chapters anyway and I’m glad I did. And you don’t have to wait until your half way through or even three quarters of the way through. By halfway through the third chapter I was hooked. I hate when people tell me the last half of the book is great, as long as I can get through the first half, I don’t want half a good book! Anyhoo….Michael and Lucy are both great characters on their own and when put together it just gets better. The relationship that they develop feels natural from the get go and believable in this supernatural world that L.J. Sealey has created.
I give the book four out of five stars. The story is well structured and flows naturally, it was never too convoluted and was not predictable the entire way through. I look forward to the second in the series
