Sergeant Justin Shaw and the two surviving members of his Special Forces unit are the last remaining evidence of the reality of Iraq’s Weapons of Mass Destruction program. On a mission during the second Iraq War, Sergeant Shaw’s company retrieved a canister from a weapons lab only to have it shatter during an ambush, exposing his team to its contents and changing them forever.
Samantha James has grown up without a father. A once renowned geneticist, he left them when she was nine years old. She hears from him only on her birthday when she receives the same gift every year, but on her twenty-eighth birthday the gift is different. A small, mysterious metal cylinder shows up on her doorstep. Before she knows what’s happening her boyfriend is dead, her mother is in the hospital, and she’s been “rescued” from hired killers only to find herself facing another potentially more insidious threat from Sergeant Shaw.
Sam remains under Shaw’s watchful guard as she tries to figure out who she can trust and how to save the ones she loves from the danger. Only sometimes, the real enemy isn’t always clear.
***Contains Graphic Sex, Strong Language and Adult Situations. Not for young readers***

I was eager to read this book, I’m a sucker for an alpha male and a leading female that has strength and can kick ass. I wanted to review this book because the story stood out for me with the genetically altered soldiers, they gave the book the edge it needed to be so much more than a man meets girl story. The story has twists and turns and depth both within the characters and the plot. The action is fast paced and the story moves along without slowing, keeping you stuck to your kindle. seriously, I ended up sleeping in and was almost late to work because I had to stay up and finish this book. But it was worth it. HK Savage writes with enough detail to give me the picture without overpowering me and taking away my pleasure of creating some of the world within my own mind. I’ve already downloaded more of her books so I can get a taste of more of her brain. (yes I understand I sound like a Zombie, but everything worked out for R so I’m okay with it.)
I give this book 5 stars, because it kept me glued to my kindle and the story developed at a pace that didn’t feel forced or too quick and the story flowed naturally. Which is a big thing for me, I understand some stories happen over a few days or weeks or months but it is how they are written that makes you believe something can happen over a few days, weeks or months, HK Savage has written a story that both flowed and developed naturally.
