I completely loved this book. The characters were well developed and the story line was intense. I love that the story opens in a place other than California, New York and all the other hot cities; instead, the author opens her story in Arizona at a bar. That’s where we meet Melissa Jones and we learn that she’s troubled and depressed. Mel is on vacation with her best friend trying to forget all her problems in Baltimore and find herself. She’s alone drinking at the bar when she spots this drop dead gorgeous man staring at her. She shouldn’t be attracted to him, but his gaze just sets her on fire. Cliche? Yes but it works for me. The blue eyed sex God introduces himself as Derrick. Within the first five minutes of meeting, they’re on each other like there’s no tomorrow and it’s incredibly hot. It’s also something I think a lot of people can relate to: the drunk one night stand. They’re only in Arizona for a week, each with their own personal agenda but Derrick wants a more than just a one night stand; he wants her for a week. Mel isn’t sure if it’s a good idea and after standing him up the next night, a turn of events leads her straight to him and his bed for the rest of the week. So what happens after that one week in Arizona? Well, Mel and her friend head back to their own realities and lives while Derrick goes his way as well. That doesn’t stop Mel and Derrick from thinking about each other. I really suggest you pick up a copy of this book and read it because if I tell you more, I’ll give everything away and I don’t want to ruin it for you. Trust me, read it! Did I mention that Derrick is a former Marine? I didn’t? Guess what? He is. A hot former Marine. You should really read this book.

Let’s talk about the characters for just a minute. Mel starts out as this lonely woman who’s broken. Her home situation is bad and it’s broken her. She can’t remember how to function without being told what to order or wear. The week that she spends with Derrick reminds her that she’s sexy, confident and that she is capable of living her life on her terms, not someone elses’ . She also figures out that she needs to do what’s best for her and not do what her mother thinks is best. Mel gradually changes from weak to strong. She stands up for herself. She starts to believe in herself again and become successful. There is a part in the book where she does really make me mad, but putting myself in her shoes, I can see why she made that choice.

Derrick is a hot former Marine gone private investigator. He’s also gone through some very difficult things in his life that have made him stop believing in love and happily ever after. You learn that he lost someone close to him and he’s had a hard time dealing with it. Then he meets Mel. He’s instantly attracted to her and wants her, not just in his bed but his life. Derrick outwardly appears strong, but he’s weak on the inside when it comes to love and Melissa. He knows she carries baggage and doesn’t push her to share it. By the end of the book, he knows that he’d do anything for her.

Pick up a copy of this book today…you’ll be glad you did!
