This is Lola’s story. She has a secret no one can know. Once a safe haven, her home has turned into a prison, and she fears if she doesn’t somehow escape, she will lose herself completely.
She finds her escape in Jack; a troubled young man with a cynical smile and eyes that see all that Lola tries to hide. But even Jack can’t save her from the evil at home
***Contains Graphic Sex, Strong Language and Adult Situations. Not for young readers***
***Contains violence and intended rape against a minor. Parents strongly cautioned***
I am truly at a loss for words, this book just hit home for me. I know the subject matter is a little hard to stomach; child abuse is a touchy topic for most, but the author writes in such a way that makes it hard to put the book down. Even as I was crying I kept telling myself that I had to finish this book, and I cried a lot.
Lola was just your typical American girl until a horrible chain of events threw her into a living nightmare. With her mother seemingly unable to help her due to her own issues, Lola contemplates what any person in her situation would see as a way out. Until she meets Jack, who pulls her back and helps her see that she can make it through with a little help from a friend. It was heartbreaking to read this book. I wanted to throw the book most of the time I was so pissed that the mom sat back and did nothing to help her own daughter.
The book as a whole is very well written and the characters are well defined. Even though the subject is hard to take I did love this book.
